My D2C predictions -the first one released this year was a popular one. So this is a list of other verticals/startups I have posted about in the last 3-4 years.
The reason for sharing this is that a big part of marketing or strategizing for businesses is just understanding if there is a scope in the given market. '
Brilliant execution on bad products or small markets can’t make for a success.
But average execution on good markets can be really succesful.
My linkedin posts from last 3-4 years..
Critiqued these companies and their business models:
👉 Meesho
👉 Oyo
👉 Byjus & other examtech, only someone built via word of mouth marketing can succeed think Vidyamandir but online ( Again, this was shared well before Byjus issues and Physicswallahs success)
👉 all quick delivery companies
👉 all cartech ( ie digital car reselling companies )
👉 D2C ( the large funded ones ,not all.Niche ones could do well )
👉 D2C aggregators (they wont do badly but are highly overvalued)
👉 A lot of the kirana-tech
👉 NeoBanks
👉 Rental businesses for clothes and furniture eg RentMojo
👉 All India-based social networks (The current ones at least)
👉 Most creator-tech companies ,except some of those who are around subject matter experts rather than creators eg GrowthMentor for India (Whoever that is) or those that fund creators or rather SMEs ie subject matter experts (massive opportunity)
👉 A lot of e-commerce marketplaces ( most actually)
I have not edited anything, even in cases where I may have turned out to be wrong. Criteria have always been business models for India
The only thing I would like to add for this year : D2C players will be acquired or see major investment by traditional conglomerates like FMCG players. So think a Reckitt,Unilver, ITC etc. Rarely will these companies buy them because they find the valuation great, it will always be at the last raised or even lower value ; they will buy them because digital is not their forte and this is a quick way to show the markets you are serious about digital.
