⚡Geopolitics meets Pop Culture 💅
The earlier controversy surrounding the K-pop group Blackpink’s tour in Vietnam and the ban on the Barbie film highlight how geopolitics can impact businesses.
Businesses need to be aware of geopolitical sensitivities to avoid backlash and negative consequences.

Here are some examples:
🅱Barbie- Film industry: The Barbie film was banned in Vietnam and faced criticism in the Philippines due to its depiction of China’s controversial nine-dash line. This highlights how movies can become entangled in geopolitical disputes and face restrictions as a result.
💃Blackpink - Entertainment industry: Blackpink is facing boycott threats in Vietnam after their concert organizer’s website featured a map showing Beijing’s nine-dash line claim. This controversy has upset Vietnamese nationalists who view it as disrespecting their country’s sovereignty over the South China Sea.
Imagine one image/one shot making you loose millions of $$ and perhaps much more if you look at future potential
🧠Positive impact of restrictions: However, trade restrictions can also have unintended positive effects by encouraging local entrepreneurship and growth. For example, trade restrictions imposed against Vietnam led to the rise of local businesses like egg coffee - a beloved Vietnamese delicacy known for its unique taste. This showcases how restrictions can stimulate innovation and create opportunities for domestic enterprises.
ps-In my two years living and travelling to different parts of Vietnam enjoyed this delicacy all over.My suggestion don’t go for the popular tourist places but the ones where locals go.
And when you do,remember the power of restrictions and the innovation that comes with it.
