Cred & another app uninstallation trend
Why don't organizations have a crisis management system in place?
As if Cred didnt have enough problems what with its :
1) FY results & mounting losses (a key point in which many business media publications seem to be missing)
+
2) the growing negative social feedback ,
now it finds itself in the middle of another crisis. ..
Old tweets of Tanmay Bhat have resurfaced and even a massive liberal like me thinks he’s taken the freedom of speech thing too far (you cant talk about enjoying rape & target specific communities & babies !! )
As soon as the tweets resurfaced a few things quickly happened:
Kotak Mahindra dropped Tanmay Bhat
That guy at Republic decided to make Tanmay a symbol for liberals and streamed this prime time (ps-sorry we dont accept him)
There is a growing trend started today to uninstall the app

Growing trend around uninstalling the app:

Unfortunately for Tanmay he has managed to say things not just about religion,Gods and Mumbai but rape, parsi community & molesting babies.
So here are a few things which will probably happen:
The trend around uninstalling Cred is going to keep growing louder
Some comedians may come forward defending Tanmay but they will quickly withdraw, seeing the backlash
Cheq ,a new startup in the same space could capitalize on this (Cheq)
The important thing here is how Cred will respond to this & how quickly ,unfortunately it’s another major Sequoia investment which is facing a mini crisis.
The big question for any business or marketing folk:
Do you have a crisis communication process /strategy in place. Because you never know when the next trend is going to happen and whether it will be about your brand or brand ambassador?
