12 sextech predictions from India to get you excited
Sextech is going to be a hot industry, that’s what I wrote 2 years back and going by the data and recent articles, is coming true.
Why Sextech is going to be one of the most profitable tech industries in India 👩❤️💋👩
An Indian startup has raised money to make the country’s first locally designed and manufactured vibrator.
and this is what NDTV profit published this month:
And the data supports the prediction: The Indian sextech market is expected to reach $2.09 billion by 2030
So given my love for strategy and predictions, here’s the next set of predictions for sextech in India:
More sex-tech startups but not necessarily great: There will be more startups in the space, leading to unhealthy competitive pricing. The growth in startups is ironically due to both-
The sector’s opportunity and sourcing from China seemed easy.
Evolving social values among sub-sections of the population.
Decrease in Quality: This results in cheap quality products from China, which carries risks and puts the category in the news for the wrong reasons.
Quality as a unique selling proposition becomes key e.g., "Make in India" or "Made with X material".
Sex-tech will move into other industries. Eg fashion- think a lingerie brand focusing on BDSM. I believe a lingerie brand will emerge in this space within 2-3 years, whether from an Indian company or someone bringing it to India.
VR ,AR and AI-enabled toys will gain prominence.
Sex could go remote (this is the one I am not sure about in the Indian context), ie remote control and app connectivity allow long-distance, partner-controlled play. AI further enhances with learned behaviour
( Don’t ask, or if you have to ask, book a consultation. Here are some reviews from other early-stage startup founders from the last few months: reviews)
Brand reputation will be crucial, as the category will be built on trust.
Influencer marketing may take place in some categories, particularly with only fan influencers, because some folk in India will definitely find a way.
And even if they can’t, physical attraction isn’t limited by geography, aka Indians consuming global content.
There is an opportunity for a small conglomerate in the space to develop multiple sub-brands and invest further.
In the next few years market will see more inclusive offerings catering to different demographics, including LGBTQ+ individuals
There will be a platform around sex-ed in India. Monetizing it will be tough, probably freemium plus ads, but the growth will be huge (until someone burns down an office etc)
Health and sexual wellness sectors will come closer as male testosterone levels drop globally. There will be an entire industry around T hormone.
Found this graph about T levels by country, couldn’t fact-check its accuracy but it definitely makes for an interesting conversation.
If you found this useful, you should check out a bunch of other predictions from D2C to startups and even the Nvidia +Nuclear development last month. Most have come true..
I help startups in Marketing and Strategy & VC firms with whitelabel consulting. DM me on Linkedin , and yes definitely share this with others who may find it interesting.
Meanwhile, next substack is going to be on B2B marketing and connecting creativity with marketingtech, including AI. An interesting area for marketers and founders.
